AS FAR have entered the race to sign Kaizer Chiefs winger Glody Makabi Lilepo, according to reports.
The Moroccan club, coached by former Yanga manager Pedro Gonçalves who recently joined the team, is said to have submitted a $1 million offer (more than TSh 2.6 billion) to secure the winger’s services after the player informed Kaizer Chiefs management of his desire to leave.
Lilepo was not included in the Chiefs squad that began pre-season training after being granted permission to handle his transfer situation. The Congolese winger still has one year remaining on his contract with Chiefs.
Yanga head coach Manqoba Mngqithi is also reported to have been interested in signing the winger, who scored five goals and provided four assists for Chiefs last season.
The competition for his signature appears to be intense, and Yanga may consider other options depending on their squad requirements.
Manqoba Targets Another Stellenbosch Winger
According to South African website FARPost, Yanga have made inquiries about the availability of Stellenbosch winger Langelihle Phili (21).
Stellenbosch have made it clear that any club interested in the young star must pay his release clause, which is reportedly around $1 million.
The player is also being monitored by Kaizer Chiefs, while Stellenbosch’s position is to do business with any club willing to meet the buyout clause.
Mngqithi is understood to have recommended improvements in key areas after conducting an assessment of the squad and identifying positions that require strengthening.
The South African coach, who is expected to arrive in Tanzania at the end of this week, is working closely with a special committee tasked with overseeing the club’s transfer activities.
