Former Young Africans SC assistant coach Matthew Silva has officially bid farewell to the club’s supporters after his contract came to an end, saying he leaves with fond memories and valuable experience gained during his time at one of Tanzania’s most historic clubs.
Silva shared his farewell message on his social media page, expressing his pride in completing his journey with Yanga in the manner he had hoped for — as a dedicated, disciplined, hardworking professional with a passion for football.
"I leave this great African club with only good memories and experiences that have helped build me further, allowing me to grow and prepare for the next steps," Silva wrote.
The coach said his goal was to leave Young Africans having created a positive impression as someone who was supportive, respectful, hardworking, and committed, adding that he believes he achieved that objective.
Silva also thanked Yanga’s leadership, technical staff, players, and especially former head coach Pedro Soares Gonçalves for giving him the opportunity to work at the club.
"To coach Pedro, thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to work with you at this great club. What a great period it was to be here, and what a great job we did together, especially after being your player 20 years ago," he said.
In his message, Silva praised Yanga’s board of directors for their efforts in developing the club and creating an environment focused on achieving greater success.
He also congratulated the players for their commitment on the pitch and for helping the team achieve its objectives, saying they showed quality and determination to accomplish great things.
Matthew leaves the club with a positive legacy among Yanga supporters, having been part of a team that won two trophies — the Mapinduzi Cup and the NBC Premier League title.
