Yanga Continue Pursuit of Jean Claude Girumugisha Despite Reported $1 Billion-Plus Transfer Fee

Five-time consecutive Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions Yanga SC have stepped up efforts to strengthen their squad for the new season, with winger Jean Claude Girumugisha emerging as one of the club's top transfer targets.

Despite reports that Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman have placed a transfer fee of more than TSh 3 billion on the player, sources indicate that Yanga have not given up and are continuing to explore ways to complete the deal.

Yanga President Hersi Said has already made it clear that the club intends to make major signings during the current transfer window as part of its strategy to build an even more competitive team for both domestic and continental competitions.

The club's recruitment drive intensified after attacking midfielder Pacome Zouzoua suffered a serious injury on June 30, an injury that could keep him out of action for an extended period.

As a result, Yanga's management has been assessing options to find a player capable of filling the void or further strengthening the team's attacking department.

Among the names under serious consideration is Jean Claude Girumugisha. The pacey winger is highly regarded for his creativity, dribbling ability, chance creation, and goal-scoring threat—qualities that align closely with Yanga's style of play and tactical needs.

Girumugisha is regarded as one of Africa's most exciting emerging talents. He remains under a long-term contract with Al Hilal Omdurman, where he has continued to impress, particularly in CAF competitions. His performances have significantly increased his market value, making any potential transfer increasingly difficult.

Nevertheless, Yanga are reportedly prepared to make a major financial investment if they determine that Girumugisha is the right player to help lead the club to new success next season.

If the move is completed, Girumugisha would become one of the most expensive signings in Yanga's history and would underline the club's ambition to assemble a squad capable of competing at the highest level in African football.
