Former Raja Club Athletic head coach Fadlu Davids is reportedly in talks with Tanzanian champions Yanga SC over becoming the club's new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
According to South African publication iDiski Times, Yanga have submitted a formal offer to the South African coach. The report adds that Davids is open to the move, with discussions now focused on finalising contractual terms.
If the deal is completed, it is expected to spark significant debate in Tanzanian football due to Davids' previous spell with Yanga's arch-rivals, Simba SC.
Davids coached Simba during the 2024/25 season, guiding the club back into the Mainland Premier League title race. Under his leadership, Simba finished just four points behind Yanga, with the championship decided on the final day of the season.
Beyond the league campaign, Davids also led Simba to the CAF Confederation Cup final, where they were defeated by Morocco's RS Berkane. Although he did not win a trophy, he received widespread praise for restoring Simba's competitiveness both domestically and on the continental stage.
After leaving Simba, Davids returned to Morocco to take charge of Raja Club Athletic at the start of the 2025/26 season. He was expected to build on the success he had previously enjoyed as assistant coach to Josef Zinnbauer, during which Raja won two trophies without losing a match.
However, his spell at Raja ended before the conclusion of the season after the team suffered two consecutive defeats at the end of May, leading to his departure despite the club remaining in contention for the Botola Pro title.
Reports indicate that Davids has already presented his proposals to the Yanga management, and if both parties reach an agreement, he could soon arrive in Tanzania to take charge of the reigning champions.
Davids Wants Moalin on His Coaching Staff
Sources close to the negotiations also claim that Davids wants Abdihamid Moalin to be part of his technical team.
Moalin took charge of Yanga after the club dismissed Pedro Goncalves and successfully guided the team to a fifth consecutive Tanzania Mainland Premier League title.
He was also part of Yanga's coaching staff when the club defeated Simba 2–0 to secure the 2024/25 league championship.
