Former Yanga SC head coach Pedro Gonçalves has congratulated the club following their achievement of winning the NBC Premier League for a fifth consecutive season, a feat that continues to underline the dominance of the Wananchi in Tanzanian football.
Pedro, who played a significant role in the club’s title-winning campaign before leaving in May and being replaced by Abdihamid Moalin, said he saw early signs of the triumph after Yanga drew 2-2 with rivals Simba SC.
According to him, that result in the derby was a key moment that signaled Yanga’s path toward retaining the championship.
Expressing his emotions, Pedro said:
“When we earned a hard-fought draw away at our biggest rivals on May 3, coming back strongly in that match while already leading by five points with the head-to-head advantage, we all knew that although there was still a long way to go, one thing was certain… Yanga Champions!!!”
Gonçalves added that after that result, he firmly believed what remained was for the team to finish the season with discipline, focus, and consistency—something Yanga successfully achieved on their way to the title.
He also praised the unity of the Wananchi and the technical bench that continued to guide the team until the objectives of the season were fulfilled.
“Congratulations Wananchi!!” he concluded.
Gonçalves also guided Yanga to the Mapinduzi Cup title earlier this year, helping the club finish the season with three trophies, including the Community Shield.
