Yanga’s Head of Information and Communications, Ali Kamwe, has said that if statistics were not the main factor, Duke Abuya would deserve to win the league’s MVP award this season.
Abuya has been a key player for Yanga throughout the campaign, and yesterday he helped lead the team to a 3-1 victory over Namungo FC in an NBC Premier League match.
The Kenyan midfielder scored Yanga’s opening goal after starting and finishing a swift counterattack himself.
Kamwe stated that the Kenyan star has enjoyed an excellent season based on his overall performances on the pitch.
“If the MVP award were given without focusing on statistics, then I would say Duke Abuya deserves the MVP award.”
“But because the decision is based on numbers, if the league ended today, Feisal Salum would deserve the award.”
“Allan Okello joined during the mid-season transfer window, and his current responsibility is to help Yanga defend the league title for another season.”
“Maybe if he performs even better in the remaining matches and produces stronger numbers than Feisal, he could compete for the award,” Kamwe said.
Playing in different positions depending on the needs of the match, Abuya has continued to impress and can arguably be described as the engine of Yanga’s midfield. So far, he has scored three goals and provided six assists.
