Yanga SC returned to the top of the league table yesterday after defeating Namungo FC 3–1 at KMC Complex.
The victory was crucial for Yanga as they reclaimed first place before the upcoming FIFA international break, which is expected to last around two weeks.
During the signing ceremony of the partnership agreement between Yanga and GSM, Yanga president Engineer Hersi Said publicly stated that the club’s main objective this season is to defend the league title for a fifth consecutive campaign. He assured supporters that the team is fully focused on retaining the championship.
Since Hersi made those remarks, Yanga have recorded victories in every match, beating Singida Black Stars 3–0 and Namungo FC 3–1.
Reports suggest that Yanga sponsor GSM has introduced a special bonus package for each victory in the club’s final seven league matches. If Yanga win all remaining games and successfully defend the title, the players are expected to earn a substantial financial reward.
One senior player within the squad reportedly revealed details of the bonus arrangement, indicating the team could receive more than TSh 700 million if they complete the mission successfully.
“We have been told that what matters most is winning the league, not going unbeaten. The boss wants to see us win these remaining matches,” said one of the team’s senior stars.
“Starting from the Singida match, we were told every victory is worth TSh 100 million. So if we win all the remaining matches, we will collect a total of TSh 700 million,” he added.
Yanga now have five matches remaining in their quest to defend the league title. After the FIFA break, they will travel to Kigoma on June 13 to face Mashujaa FC.
They will then head to Arusha to play Fountain Gate on June 17 before returning to Dar es Salaam to finish the season against Azam FC, TRA United, and JKT Tanzania.
