Yanga Princess suffered a 2-1 defeat against Simba Queens today, a result that has seriously weakened their hopes of winning the Women’s Premier League title.
Yanga Princess started the match slowly at Azam Complex, allowing Simba Queens to dominate and score two early first-half goals through striker Jentrix Shikangwa.
Princess returned stronger in the second half and pulled one goal back in the 58th minute through Riticcia Nabossa. The goal came from a free-kick delivered by Precious Christopher after Jeaninne Mukandayisenga was fouled in an incident that appeared to occur inside the penalty area. Many felt the referee should have awarded a penalty and possibly punished the Simba Queens defender, but no penalty was given.
Despite creating several attacks and putting Simba Queens under pressure in the second half, the efforts of coach Edna Lema’s side failed to produce an equaliser as they eventually fell to defeat.
Yanga Princess remain second in the standings with 39 points, while Simba Queens continue to lead the league with 46 points.
