Despite losing to Dodoma Jiji yesterday, Young Africans SC (Yanga) remain at the top of the league table with 54 points.
The gap between Yanga and second-placed Simba SC is now just two points, with seven matches remaining before the end of the season.
In the remaining fixtures, Yanga will travel outside Dar es Salaam for only two matches — against Mashujaa FC and Fountain Gate — while their other five matches will all be played in Dar es Salaam.
The remaining Dar es Salaam fixtures are against Singida Black Stars, Namungo FC, TRA United, Azam FC, and JKT Tanzania.
Four of those home matches will be played at KMC Complex, while the match against JKT Tanzania will take place at Meja Jenerali Isamuhyo Stadium.
Yanga will travel to Mbweni twice to face JKT Tanzania because the two teams are first scheduled to meet this Saturday in the quarterfinals of the CRDB Federation Cup.
Yanga also hold an important advantage over Simba if the teams finish level on points, as the first tie-breaker considered in the standings is the head-to-head record.
Yanga scored two away goals against Simba in the second-round meeting, while the first-round clash ended in a goalless draw.
Just as they successfully defended a one-point lead to win the title last season, Yanga will believe they can repeat the achievement again this year.
Simply put, the championship is still in Yanga’s hands. For another team to win the title, Yanga would first need to make mistakes.
The task now facing the players and technical bench is to ensure those mistakes do not happen in the remaining seven matches.
