The performance of Yanga’s right-back Yao Kouassi “Jeshi” in the Muungano Cup final against Simba has reminded fans of the Ivorian defender’s quality.
That match marked his first major competitive appearance for Yanga since returning from an injury that kept him out for more than eight months.
Yanga coach Pedro Goncalves has often preferred Israh Mwenda as his first-choice right-back, but after Yao’s strong display, it would not be surprising to see him handed another starting opportunity in the upcoming Premier League clash against Simba on Sunday, May 3, at Isamuhyo Stadium.
Yao was solid defensively throughout his time on the pitch, effectively shutting down attacks on his side with no real threats coming through his flank.
It is clear he needed just one high-intensity match to prove he has fully recovered and is ready to compete at the highest level once again.
