Yanga head coach Pedro Gonçalves has made it clear that his team is determined to defend the Muungano Cup title as they face Muembe Makumbi in today’s quarter-final clash.
Pedro, who is leading Yanga in this Zanzibar-based tournament for the second time this year after guiding them to Mapinduzi Cup success, said his team is aiming to play all three matches — meaning reaching the final.
The coach arrived in Zanzibar yesterday with a full squad, with only injured players left behind.
“We are here, and as always this is a team that demands success. We have come as defending champions, and we want to continue what we achieved last season.
“I was here during the Mapinduzi Cup, and I know how difficult it is to win against teams from here. We cannot take Muembe Makumbi lightly.
“We have brought a full squad. The only players left behind are those not ready to play this season. The rest are here, and we aim to play three matches to reach the final,” said Pedro.
Pedro also emphasized that Yanga will not fear any opponent, stating that his experienced squad is well-prepared to handle high-pressure matches and will adapt their approach based on each opponent.
“There is no room to fear any team when you are working with a club like Yanga. We have experienced players who know how to handle pressure. We will respect every opponent, but we will have a plan for each of them,” he added.
