This season, one could say that Yanga made a “mistake” in the transfer window, as many of the stars signed by the historic Tanzania Mainland champions have failed to live up to expectations.
The signing of particularly foreign players during the main window did not pay off, forcing Yanga to loan out some of them during the secondary window.
Yanga’s Head of Information and Communications, Ali Kamwe, recently stated that this year’s recruitment was not fully overseen by Yanga President Engineer Hersi Said.
Kamwe explained that the coaches’ recommendations were prioritized, which may have led to challenges where some players underperformed compared to the ones they replaced.
It is now reported that in the next transfer window, Engineer Hersi will return to oversee the entire process, starting with efforts to bring back attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki, who is currently playing for Al-Ittihad Tripoli in Libya.
Aziz Ki is a player who was once a key midfielder for Yanga, helping the club win all domestic titles and earning both the top scorer and MVP awards.
He joined Yanga in 2022, achieving significant success before moving to Wydad Athletic Club in 2025, and later completing a transfer to Al-Ittihad Tripoli in January 2026.
Sources close to the transfer report that Yanga has begun steps to re-sign Aziz Ki in the upcoming window, considering his prior contributions and experience in African football.
Reports also indicate that the player himself is interested in returning to Tanzania to reunite with his family and reconnect with his positive ties to Yanga.
Even after leaving Yanga, Aziz Ki has continued to follow the club, engaging on social media and wishing the team well in Champions League matches and the Kariakoo derby against Simba.
Since Aziz Ki’s departure, the attacking midfield position has been unstable. Despite signing Ugandan Allan Okello, coach Pedro Goncalves has often deployed him as a winger, while utilizing Mudathir Yahya, Maxi Nzengeli, and Duke Abuya in different periods.
Perhaps this is why Yanga is considering bringing back Aziz Ki, who also regards Yanga as the club that elevated him most on the African continent.
