Injuries to strikers Clement Mzize, Laurindo Aurelio, and Prince Dube have created an opportunity for forward Emmanuel Mwanengo to feature in the starting lineup.
In the recent Mainland Premier League match against Mtibwa Sugar in Dodoma, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Mwanengo played the full 90 minutes.
Yanga’s goal in that match was scored by Pacome Zouzoua, with the assist coming from Mwanengo, who reacted quickly to a rebound from Mtibwa Sugar goalkeeper Constantine Malimi following a shot by Allan Okello.
Mwanengo also scored in the first half, but the goal was incorrectly disallowed after the assistant referee ruled that Pacome, who provided the pass, was offside—when he was not.
He could have secured all three points for Yanga in the final minutes, but his shot from inside the penalty area was saved by the Mtibwa Sugar goalkeeper.
Missing that late chance may have led to criticism from some fans, despite his overall contribution in the match.
Had he scored that opportunity, he likely would have been named man of the match based on his performance.
The key area Mwanengo needs to improve is decision-making and finishing—he must become more clinical in front of goal.
Mwanengo, who joined Yanga from TRA United during the mid-season transfer window, may remind fans of the time Clement Mzize was promoted to the senior team by coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Mzize also faced heavy criticism at times due to his efficiency in front of goal, but he continued to be trusted and given opportunities, eventually reaching his current level.
Mwanengo has made a promising start, and what he needs now is trust and consistent playing time to further develop his game.
