Yanga head coach Pedro Goncalves has expressed confidence in his team ahead of their NBC Premier League match against Azam FC, which will be played on Sunday at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Speaking during a press conference earlier today, Goncalves admitted the match will be challenging as they face one of the strongest teams in the league.
The Portuguese coach emphasized that his players are ready to fight for victory and secure maximum points in the encounter.
"We are going to face one of the toughest teams in the league. Azam FC have been performing well, even in the CAF Confederation Cup," said Goncalves.
"We also faced them in the Mapinduzi Cup final in Zanzibar. They are a strong team coached by someone with great experience in African football."
Goncalves also highlighted the significance of playing at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, noting that it will be his first time coaching a match at the venue since joining the club.
"For me, it is a good thing to play at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. This will be my first time playing in this stadium since I arrived here."
The coach acknowledged that the team has had a tight schedule, leaving them with limited time to prepare for the match.
"We have had a tough schedule and only two days to prepare for this game. Yesterday was not easy for us because we had a recovery program, and today we will complete our preparations."
Despite the short preparation time, Goncalves insisted his players remain focused and determined to perform well.
"We are strong. My players understand what they need to do even though we have been playing in different conditions. It will be a difficult match because we are facing a strong team, but I believe my players are ready with great spirit and motivation to win the game," he added.
