Yanga head coach Pedro Goncalves has said there will be frequent changes to the team’s lineup due to the demanding schedule ahead, while warning his players against complacency whenever they get an opportunity to play. He stressed that every player must prove their worth when trusted with minutes on the pitch.
Goncalves made the remarks after Yanga’s 2-0 victory over Cosmopolitan in the Round of 64 of the CRDB Federation Cup (FA), played on February 18, 2026, at the KMC Complex.
Pedro noted that the players who featured were given a good test by their opponents, describing the match as competitive since Cosmopolitan came well-prepared. However, he expressed concern over his team’s lack of consistency in performance.
“Although the team got the result, it was not as good as we expected. Even if a player does not get regular playing time, what he fights for in training must be shown in competitive matches to give me confidence to trust him more. Many played at an average level, and this is not good.
“We have many matches and the schedule is not friendly to us. This is the time for players who have not had enough opportunities, while others who have been heavily involved in tough CAF Champions League matches need rest to regain full fitness before we face our rivals Simba,” Pedro said.
He added that every player signed by Yanga has value and will be used according to the needs of each match. While he respects the ability of every squad member, he reminded them to value even a single minute they are given to serve the club, which has big ambitions this season.
