Yanga's Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, said that their 2-0 victory over Cosmopolitan in the CRDB Cup Round of 32 was an important result, as it secured their place in the next round.
Kamwe stated that the team’s main goal in the match was simply to win and advance, regardless of the number of goals scored.
He made the remarks in response to critics who felt Yanga should have scored more against the Championship League side.
The spokesperson for the national champions explained that Yanga had recently played tough Premier League matches and, given the consecutive games, it was important for both the technical bench and the players to take precautions.
"I have seen many comments expecting us to score many goals, but that’s not football. We played a difficult match on Sunday and returned on Monday, meaning we only had one day of training, and most of the players who played Sunday also played this game."
"These are matches to refresh, the important thing is to get the result and move to the next stage. We have another match on Sunday against Namungo in Ruangwa, and also a match on the 25th against JKT here at KMC Complex."
"Therefore, our players had to play carefully to avoid injuries, which is why they played at a normal pace," Kamwe added.
