Despite failing to reach the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL), Yanga have climbed to 10th place in the CAF club rankings across Africa.
Yanga finished third in Group B, accumulating a total of 35 points over the past five years based on their performances in CAF competitions.
The club has moved up two places from 12th position last season. Although this season may appear unsuccessful in terms of immediate objectives, it is clear that over the past five years Yanga have made significant progress.
They have reached the CAF Champions League group stage for three consecutive seasons, advancing to the quarter-finals in one of those campaigns.
In addition, within the same five-year period, Yanga reached the final of the CAF Confederation Cup — their biggest continental milestone — coming close to being crowned champions, only for circumstances and regulations not to favor them.
All these achievements have come since Yanga’s sponsor, GSM, began investing in the club and helping to restore its presence on the international stage.
Domestically, there is little debate about their dominance. Over the past four years, Yanga have won all major local titles in every season.
