The Yanga Executive Committee, led by President Engineer Hersi Said, today held a special meeting with GSM Company under its Chairman, Ghalib Said Mohamed, in Zanzibar.
Speaking after the meeting, Engineer Hersi said the session was specifically aimed at setting strategic plans ahead of the commencement of the stadium construction project, with GSM having been awarded the contract after winning the tender.
Through the meeting, Hersi stated that Yanga presented its requirements for the completion of the project, which will see the club realize its long-held dream of owning a stadium to be used for both domestic and international competitions.
βA few days ago, we shared a vision of the direction for building our stadium. After the process, we secured an investor who will construct our stadium. The winner of the tender is GSM Company under its Chairman Ghalib Said Mohamed. Today, we held a meeting where we presented our requirements to them.β
βWe have submitted to GSM the specifications of the stadium we want. We understand there are four CAF stadium categories. Category Three allows hosting matches up to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, while Category Four can host matches up to the final. We are targeting a stadium between Category Three and Four standards. We want a modern, high-quality stadium capable of meeting both national and international requirements.β
βWe have already discussed and approved the design we want for our stadium. We mutually agreed that the design meets our needs and CAF requirements.β
βAfter today, we expect to hold another meeting to discuss all costs. Once we agree on the budget, the next step will be determining the distribution of responsibilities and benefits of the project for both sides, then signing the contract with our partner, GSM.β
βThe fourth step will be implementation of the project. We need one week to finalize the requirements and goals agreed upon today. After the second meeting, the third will mark history. GSM has stated that the day the contract is signed, construction will begin immediately. GSM is ready and highly motivated to start and complete this historic project for our club,β said Hersi.
