Yanga SC are determined to finish the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) group stage in emphatic fashion, needing at least a 2–0 victory over JS Kabylie in their final Group B match scheduled for Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
In the current Group B standings, Al Ahly lead with nine points, followed by AS FAR with eight. Yanga sit third with five points, while JS Kabylie are bottom with three.
To qualify for the quarter-finals, Yanga must win their match by a margin of two goals or more, while also hoping that Al Ahly defeat AS FAR without conceding in their fixture at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.
According to group statistics, Yanga have so far scored two goals and conceded four, while AS FAR have scored three and conceded two. If Yanga score at least two goals and AS FAR lose without scoring, Yanga would surpass them on goals scored — a scenario that would hand the Tanzanian side a quarter-final ticket under the competition’s regulations.
In head-to-head records, Yanga and AS FAR are level, with each side having secured a 1–0 home victory. Therefore, a convincing win for Yanga combined with a favorable result from Cairo could seal a historic qualification for the Tanzanian representatives.
The Zanzibar showdown is expected to be fiercely contested, with Yanga counting on strong home support at the New Amaan Complex. Their rallying cry ahead of the clash is “We Qualify in Style,” reflecting their determination to advance in memorable fashion.
Speaking ahead of the decisive match, Yanga’s Head of Information and Communications, Ali Kamwe, said the team has every reason to believe in their bold slogan given the stature of the clubs in their group.
“We are in a group where three teams have previously won the African title — except Yanga. So when we say we will qualify in style, it’s because if we succeed, we will advance ahead of former champions. We will go to the quarter-finals with one champion and leave the other two behind. That is qualifying in style!” Kamwe said.
On the other side of the group, Al Ahly are expected to enjoy massive home support after being cleared to fill the Cairo International Stadium. The Egyptian giants need a win or a draw to finish top of Group B, but a victory for them is the result that would open the door for Yanga — provided they take care of business in Zanzibar.
Yanga’s fate in the CAF Champions League now rests largely in their own hands, as football fans across Tanzania turn their attention to both Zanzibar and Cairo simultaneously. This Sunday could mark a historic day for the Citizens if they deliver on their calculations and qualify in style.
