Yanga’s leadership has decided to boost motivation within the squad ahead of their crucial CAF Champions League clash against JS Kabylie, scheduled for Sunday, February 15, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.

According to sources within the club, Yanga’s management has promised a substantial bonus to players if they secure qualification to the quarter-finals. The bonus is said to be half of the prize money awarded by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to teams that reach that stage.

Clubs that qualify for the quarter-finals are expected to receive approximately TSh 2.4 billion, meaning half of that — around TSh 1.2 billion — could be distributed among the players if reports are accurate. If implemented, this would rank among the largest single bonuses ever awarded to the club’s players.

Yanga have already arrived in Zanzibar to complete their final preparations for the decisive encounter. The Citizens need a victory of at least 2–0 to put themselves in a strong position to qualify, while also awaiting the outcome of the match between Al Ahly and AS FAR. Any kind of victory for Al Ahly would significantly improve Yanga’s chances of progressing.

If Yanga manage to reach the quarter-finals, they will be Tanzania’s sole representatives at that stage of the CAF Champions League. Their traditional rivals, Simba SC, have already been eliminated after collecting just two points from five matches in Group D.

Therefore, the match against JS Kabylie is not only about securing a quarter-final ticket, but also about safeguarding the pride of Tanzanian football on the international stage.

Beyond the financial incentive, qualification would mark a major sporting achievement for Yanga. It would further cement the club’s status as one of Africa’s rising forces, while validating the investment made in strengthening the squad and technical bench.

Additionally, progressing to the quarter-finals would earn Yanga valuable CAF ranking points, improving their continental standing and potentially securing more favorable group-stage draws in future competitions.
