GSM Tanzania Limited has won the tender to construct Young Africans SC’s new stadium at the club’s headquarters in Jangwani, Dar es Salaam.
The Yanga Executive Committee met on Saturday to review applications from various bidders, and GSM emerged the winner after meeting all the set requirements.
GSM was officially announced today during a press conference held earlier at Yanga’s headquarters in Jangwani.
Before announcing GSM as the successful bidder, Yanga’s leadership expressed its concern and strongly condemned the violence directed at Simba SC Chairman Murtaza Mangungu by some fans following Simba’s CAF Champions League match against Esperance, which ended in a 2–2 draw.
Speaking on behalf of the leadership, Yanga’s Head of Information and Communication, Ali Kamwe, announced the decision of the Executive Committee to select the company.
“Before I move on to today’s main agenda, the leadership of Young Africans has sent me to convey the following message. Yesterday, we saw many videos showing fans attacking the Chairman of Simba Sports Club, Murtaza Mangungu. As Young Africans, we strongly condemn and oppose those acts of hooliganism that took place yesterday. Nevertheless, we convey our sympathies to the Chairman and other leaders who were affected by that incident,”
“On Saturday, our leadership held a meeting of the Executive Committee chaired by Club President Eng. Hersi Ally Said to discuss one key agenda—the process of building the Young Africans Sports Club stadium. That meeting was meant to give a final decision on the company or institution that won the tender to partner with Yanga in constructing the stadium,”
“Before naming the winner of this tender, allow me to take you through the entire process of constructing this stadium. The process went through several stages. The first stage involved assessing the construction site, after which it was discovered that additional land was required to complete the project. We then worked with the Government to request extra land. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for granting us additional land,”
“I would now like to officially announce to Tanzanians that GSM Tanzania Limited is the company that has won the tender to construct the Young Africans Sports Club stadium,”
“Our leaders, led by the Club President, had a dream of building a stadium and decided that it should be constructed at our club headquarters. They consulted experts and later realized that additional land was necessary for the stadium to meet CAF requirements. The Government provided us with the land and the title deed, and after completing that process, we looked for a contractor to build the stadium. Eventually, GSM Tanzania Ltd won this tender,” said Kamwe.
