CAF Champions League Group B Takes Shape as Al Ahly Lead and Yanga Face Defining Test

The CAF Champions League continued with great excitement on Friday and Saturday, January 23 and 24, 2026, as Group B further highlighted its competitiveness following the third round of matches.

The group, which features Egypt’s Al Ahly, Tanzania’s Young Africans (Yanga), Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat, and Algeria’s JS Kabylie, has now begun to paint a clearer picture of who is heading toward the quarterfinals and who is under pressure to fight until the very last minute.

In a highly anticipated encounter, Yanga suffered a 2–0 defeat against Al Ahly, a result that placed the historic African champions at the top of Group B with seven points. The victory strengthened Al Ahly’s position on the road to the quarterfinals, as they once again demonstrated their vast experience in high-pressure matches.

For Yanga, despite showing positive spells of play, they were unable to cope with Al Ahly’s tempo and sharpness, particularly in the final third of the pitch. The defeat has left Wananchi in second place in the group with four points — a position that still offers hope, but also places significant pressure on them ahead of the upcoming return fixture.

In the other Group B match, AS FAR Rabat and JS Kabylie played out a goalless draw. The result did little to benefit either side, as both teams now sit on two points each at the bottom of the group. The draw has made their task more difficult, as they now require wins in their remaining matches while also depending on results elsewhere.

Overall, Group B is now led by Al Ahly with seven points, followed by Yanga, with AS FAR and JS Kabylie trailing behind. The points gap clearly shows that the battle for second place remains wide open, but even small mistakes could prove very costly.

All eyes are now on the upcoming match scheduled for January 31, 2026, when Yanga will face Al Ahly once again. This is a decisive fixture for Wananchi, as they need a positive result to remain firmly in the race for a quarterfinal spot.

After the 2–0 loss, Yanga will be forced to play with greater bravery, sharpen their attacking edge, and maintain defensive discipline to avoid conceding an early goal.

For Al Ahly, the match presents an opportunity to once again confirm their dominance and effectively seal qualification from Group B. For Yanga, it is a psychological, technical, and tactical test — one that could determine their fate in this prestigious African club competition.

As the group stage approaches its conclusion, Group B continues to prove itself as one of the toughest groups in this season’s CAF Champions League. Every point, every goal, and every minute now carries huge value, especially for Yanga, who are still holding on to the dream of reaching the quarterfinals for the second time in three years.
