After Yanga completed the transfer of former Vipers winger and Uganda national team (The Cranes) star Allan Okello, the club has now broken its own transfer record, surpassing the previous record held by Cesar Lobi Manzoki.
Okello’s transfer was finalized following bilateral negotiations between Yanga president Engineer Hersi Said and Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa. The two met last week in Kampala, Uganda, to conclude the deal.
Following the completion of the transfer, Yanga paid Tsh 740 million, equivalent to USD 300,000 and UGX 1 billion, making Okello the second-most expensive player ever sold by Vipers. The record holder remains attacking midfielder Farouk Miya, who previously joined Standard Liège.
Miya moved to Belgian club Standard Liège in 2016 and remains Vipers’ most expensive sale, having been transferred for Tsh 986 million, equivalent to USD 400,000 or UGX 1.4 billion.
The next player on the list of high-value sales is striker Cesar Manzoki, who was sold to China in 2022 to join Dalian Professional. Vipers earned Tsh 493 million from that transfer, equivalent to USD 200,000 or UGX 721 million.
As a result, Farouk Miya continues to hold the record as Vipers’ most expensive outgoing player, followed by Okello, who joined Yanga and overtook Manzoki, a player who had frequently been linked with Simba.
Okello, who has previously impressed while playing for clubs such as KCCA FC of Uganda and Paradou AC of Algeria, joins other new signings made during the current mini transfer window, including midfielder Mohamed Damaro from Singida Black Stars.
Other additions include Emmanuel Mwanengo, formerly of TRA United and Tabora United, as well as Angolan striker Laurindo Dilson Maria Aurélio “Depu,” who has joined the squad from Polish side Radomiak Radom to add fresh attacking strength.
