Tanzania’s national team, Taifa Stars, will on Saturday throw in their second card at the AFCON 2025 tournament when they face their neighbors Uganda in another Group C fixture.
Tanzania are still searching for their first-ever win in the competition and a chance to make history, as this is the fourth time they have qualified for AFCON but have never recorded a victory.
This could be the opportunity for the Stars to register their maiden win, but it will not be easy against their neighbors Uganda.
Speaking earlier today ahead of the match, Tanzania national team head coach Miguel Gamondi emphasized his strong belief in his squad going into tomorrow’s encounter against Uganda.
Gamondi said Taifa Stars are well prepared and have no fear of The Cranes, expressing confidence that his players’ ability, discipline, and morale can produce a positive result in the match to be played at Al Medina Stadium.
He added that while respect is given to all opponents, Tanzania will step onto the pitch ready to fight with the aim of winning and putting themselves in a good position to progress.
“Uganda are not a big team; they and us are more or less the same. Even if you look at the difference in the balance of players playing locally and abroad, you will see that,”
“It’s a derby and it will be a tough match, but quality and performance on the pitch will decide the game. On our side, we have players who can win this match—Msuva, Samatta—and that is something Tanzanians should know,” said Gamondi.
Tanzania and Uganda will meet after both lost their opening Group C matches. Tanzania were beaten 2–1 by Nigeria, while Uganda suffered a 3–1 defeat to Tunisia.
