Defender Bakari Nondo Mwamnyeto yesterday showed exactly why Taifa Stars head coach Miguel Gamondi included him in the squad competing at the ongoing AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco.
Despite Tanzania losing their opening Group C match 2–1 to Nigeria, Mwamnyeto, working closely with Ibrahim Bacca and other teammates, delivered a very solid performance in defense.

In that match, Gamondi opted to start with a central defensive partnership of Mwamnyeto and Ibrahim Bacca, while Dickson Job was introduced in the second half to play at right-back.
Nigeria’s dangerous striker Victor Osimhen will likely remember the Yanga duo, as they ensured he failed to score in the match.
Mwamnyeto has continued to prove himself as a dependable central defender, maintaining a high level of performance over a long period despite not getting regular playing time at Yanga.
He is a natural leader on the pitch—quick to react in dangerous situations and equally quick to correct mistakes that arise within the defensive line.
