Dar es Salaam–based club Yanga have been fined TSh 5,000,000 (five million) after one of their supporters jumped over the barrier and entered the field of play, where the fan was seen reaching as far as Coastal Union’s goal and bending down as if searching for, picking up, or placing something.
According to a statement issued by the League Board’s League Management and Administration Committee, the sanction was imposed in accordance with Premier League Regulation 47:1 concerning Club Control.
In a separate development, the League Board has reminded its clubs to continue emphasizing the importance of fair play and good conduct in matches by players, officials, and supporters.
The reminder follows a series of incidents involving players engaging in unsporting behavior against their fellow players, including acts of physical assault.
In addition to endangering the safety of players, such incidents have also created a negative image for the league, which could lower its standing. The Board noted that despite the heavy penalties that have been imposed on the players involved, such incidents have continued to occur on the pitches.
