Coach Pedro Goncalves has today ended Yanga’s long-standing struggle in CAF group-stage opening matches after leading the team to a 1–0 win over AS FAR in their CAF Champions League (CAFCL) Group B clash.
It was the Prince himself, Prince Dube, who delivered the decisive goal, giving Yanga three crucial home points and a strong start in their quest for a quarterfinal spot.
Goncalves’ boys looked dominant throughout the match and could have scored more were it not for the brilliance of the AS FAR goalkeeper, who pulled off several key saves.
In midfield, Duke Abuya continued to excel in his new role as a defensive midfielder, while Pacome Zouzoua was a constant threat to the AS FAR backline.
The Yanga defense was solid, with Dickson Job and Ibrahim Bacca commanding the central line, while Mohamed Hussein and Israh Mwenda delivered strong performances on the flanks. Goalkeeper Djigui Diarra also kept Yanga safe with several important saves.
