Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, has expressed surprise at those questioning why striker Clement Mzize did not travel to Morocco to receive his 2024/25 CAF Goal of the Season award.
Kamwe clarified that the decision was not made by Mzize alone, but followed medical advice from the doctors who recently performed surgery on his knee.
He added that Yanga officially informed CAF in advance about the player’s condition, which is why Mzize was asked to record a special appreciation message that was played after he was announced as the winner.
“This was not a decision made solely by Yanga. Mzize informed us of the doctor’s advice that it was not appropriate for him to travel to Rabat, Morocco because of the recent knee surgery,” Kamwe said.
“We communicated with CAF, who requested the medical report, and they also confirmed the situation with the doctors. That’s why, after Mzize was announced the winner, the MC mentioned that he had just undergone surgery and therefore could not travel.”
“This shows CAF had the full information. Had the report been false or questionable, they would not have made it official or announced it at such a major event,” Kamwe added.
