Yanga head coach Pedro Goncalves has already started his duties, preparing the team for the Premier League match against Mtibwa Sugar to be played tomorrow, Tuesday October 28 at the KMC Complex.
If his paperwork and permits are completed in time, Gonçalves could stand on the touchline for the first time in that match, which Yanga need to win after being held to a goalless draw in their previous league game.
However, if some procedures are not yet finalized, coach Patrick Mabedi may continue to appear on the technical bench.
Mabedi remains part of the assistant coaching staff on a bench now led by Pedro, who has arrived with fellow assistant coach Filipe Pedro and goalkeepers’ coach Fernando Pereira.
Goncalves’ first task is to restore Yanga’s tradition of fast, attacking football and game dominance. The good news for Yanga fans is that Goncalves himself prefers that style of play.
Under Pedro, Yanga could use any of three systems he has previously employed with the Angola national team — 4-4-2, 3-5-2, or 4-2-3-1.
The coach’s philosophy is to see his team play disciplined, attractive football with clear organization in both defending and attacking phases.
The 4-2-3-1 formation will not be new to Yanga players, as it was used by previous coaches Nasreddine Nabi, Miguel Gamondi, Sead Ramović and even Hamdi Miloud.
Goncalves will not have much time to settle, as he faces three league matches within one week against Mtibwa Sugar, Tanzania Prisons and KMC.
