Chairman of Yanga’s Competition Committee, Rodgers Gumbo, says the club’s leadership is fully prepared and will give full support to coach Patrick Mabedi ahead of the second-leg CAF Champions League playoff match against Silver Strikers scheduled for Saturday.
After returning to the country on Monday, the team entered residential camp on Tuesday afternoon to begin preparations for the decisive match to be played on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam from 5:00 PM.
Yanga will need to win by at least a 2–0 scoreline to overturn the deficit and secure a group stage ticket for the fourth consecutive season in CAF competitions.
Gumbo said that in addition to meeting Mabedi, who is Malawian, they will also meet the players to boost their morale during preparations and on matchday.
The boss added they have great confidence that despite the changes on the technical bench after sacking former head coach Romain Folz, they still have a strong squad capable of turning things around.
“This is an important match against Silver Strikers; I want to tell you that preparations are not normal — it is like we are going to play a final. You can see how early we entered camp — we have no time to waste,” Gumbo was quoted by Mwanaspoti.
“Our leadership will go to camp, we will speak with the coach and he will tell us if there is anything he needs so he can get it quickly. After that we will meet the whole squad — we want to ensure their psychology is focused on a big win.”
“Through your platform deliver this message to our fans — we are ready, and they must also prepare. This is our match — they must come to the stadium — but we have a duty to work together to restore our honour. It will not be acceptable to fail to qualify for the group stage twice in a row.”
