Yanga Executive Committee member Alex Ngai says the decision to sack coach Romain Folz was necessary as the team had begun to lose direction.
Ngai is among the senior Yanga officials who travelled to Malawi to witness the match against Silver Strikers, which ended with the hosts winning 1–0 — leaving Yanga with the task of overturning the result in the second leg to be played at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium later this week.
The defeat was enough for Yanga management to fire Folz immediately and appoint Patrick Mabedi as Acting Head Coach.
“We deserved to lose because we displayed a very poor performance. I think since we came into leadership at Yanga I have never seen such a poor showing as in that last game,” said Ngai.
Ngai also revealed that Yanga are finalizing the process of hiring a new coach, assuring fans that the incoming manager has a strong international résumé.
“A top coach is coming — a coach with a big profile, one who has coached big clubs in Africa and even globally, and a coach capable of handling the pressure that comes with a big club in crisis,” Ngai added.
Yanga return from Malawi today and will enter camp tomorrow, Tuesday, to prepare for the second leg against Silver Strikers.
