Young Africans (Yanga) kicked off the 2025/26 Premier League season in style with a 3-0 win over Pamba Jiji at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Although Yanga started the game slowly, they went into the break leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from Lassine Kouma, who converted a corner delivered by Edmund John.
Second-half substitutions by coach Romain Folz — bringing on Aziz Andabwile, Mohammed Doumbia, Pacome Zouzoua, Prince Dube, and Mudathir Yahya — injected more pace and attacking threat into Yanga’s play.
Maxi Nzengeli doubled the lead after finishing off a cross from Mohammed Hussein ‘Zimbwe Jr’, before Mudathir Yahya sealed the win late in the game with a third goal from Pacome’s assist.
While the three points were the most important outcome for the Wananchi, it was clear that Yanga did not perform at their best, especially in the first half, before the second-half changes turned the game around.
