Just a few hours remain before the first-leg preliminary round clash in the CAF Champions League, where Tanzania’s Young Africans (Yanga) are in Angola to face Wiliete SC.
This will be the third time Yanga play against a club from Angola in CAF competitions, having previously faced Petro Atletico (CAF Champions League) and Sagrada Esperança (CAF Confederation Cup).
Yanga have enjoyed a positive record against Angolan teams, eliminating them on both previous occasions. In 2007, during the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, Yanga knocked out Petro Atletico with a 3-2 aggregate win.
In the first leg away, Yanga lost 2-0, but turned it around at home with a 3-0 victory, advancing 3-2 on aggregate.
Later, in 2016, Yanga faced Sagrada Esperança in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. They won the first leg 2-0 at home, lost 1-0 away, but progressed with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.
Today, the Citizens are chasing yet another record against Angolan opposition, beginning the campaign away to Wiliete before completing the tie at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on September 27.
