Tanzania Mainland champions, Young Africans (Yanga SC), today begin their 2025/26 CAF Champions League campaign with a first-leg preliminary round clash against Wiliete SC of Angola.
The match is scheduled to take place at the November 11 Stadium in Luanda, kicking off at 6:00 p.m. Tanzanian time.
Yanga’s squad arrived in Luanda on Wednesday evening and held their final training session yesterday, Thursday, at the same venue to ensure full readiness ahead of today’s test.
On one hand, it is a battle between a club with rich history and continental experience against a relatively young side seeking to make its mark. Yanga, who have reached the CAFCL group stages on several occasions, have set big goals this season: to move past the preliminary and knockout stages to secure a place in the groups.
On the other hand, Wiliete SC is a youthful club with just about eight years since its establishment but has made great strides in a short period. Finishing second in the Angolan top league last season and qualifying for CAF competitions for the first time is a strong indicator of their rapid growth and ambition.
Yanga’s Head Coach, Romain Folz, has said that his players are ready to fight and ensure they achieve positive results away from home.
For Yanga, victory today would be a vital stepping stone in their mission to qualify for the next round.
