Friday, September 12, 2025, will mark the climax of Wiki ya Mwananchi, one of the biggest entertainment events in East and Central Africa, organized by Yanga Sports Club.
The event serves as the curtain-raiser for the new season, where thousands of Yanga fans will gather at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, while others follow the festivities on television.
However, this year’s event will take place on a Friday instead of the traditional weekend dates (Saturday or Sunday).
Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, revealed that even securing the date of September 12 was not easy due to scheduling conflicts.
“The club has already announced that the climax of Wiki ya Mwananchi will be on September 12, 2025. Many of you have been asking why the festival is on a Friday and not on a Saturday or Sunday as usual.”
“Let me tell you, our leaders worked very hard to make this festival possible this season because the FIFA calendar is very tight.”
“If we had chosen another date, we would have missed many of our players who have been called up for their national teams. In addition, there’s the Community Shield and league fixtures. So, if we hadn’t secured September 12, we would have struggled to stage this climax of Wiki ya Mwananchi,” Kamwe said during a special meeting with Yanga elders, branch leaders, and social media groups in Dar es Salaam.
