Following the Tanzania Premier League Board’s (TPLB) announcement of the 2025/26 league fixtures yesterday, Yanga Executive Committee member Rodgers Gumbo said the club is entering the new season determined to build on last season’s successes.
The defending champions clinched all domestic titles last season, securing the league crown in the final match of the campaign with a 2-0 victory over archrivals Simba.
Gumbo boasted that with major improvements to the squad and upgrades at their Avic Town training camp, he sees no reason why Yanga cannot continue their dominance.
“We’ve looked at the fixtures, and we have no real issues with them. What I can say is Yanga is fully prepared for this new season, which we’ll kick off with the Community Shield against our rivals Simba.”
“After last season ended, our management sat down for a thorough evaluation of our squad and even our opponents. We knew our goals were big, so our recruitment had to match high standards. That’s why we’ve built a strong team capable of competing in Africa. When you have a powerful squad for continental tournaments, it also means you have a great chance to dominate domestically.”
Gumbo also emphasized that after enhancing the Avic Town camp, the club is introducing better welfare benefits to increase competitiveness within the team and across all competitions.
“We brought in specialists to modernize our camp, and now it’s state-of-the-art. That’s what gives us the confidence to prepare properly for any opponent we face.”
“Beyond that, our competitions department has reviewed last season’s achievements, and we’re implementing major improvements to ensure our players remain fully committed to delivering victories for the club.”
Yanga will begin their 2025/26 season at home on September 24, 2025, against Pamba Jiji, before traveling to face newly promoted Mbeya City at the Sokoine Stadium on September 30. These fixtures come just days after their CAF Champions League first-round second-leg clash against Angola’s Wiliete Banguela. The first-leg match will be played between September 19–21.
