Yanga SC are gearing up to have a stronger attacking force next season after star striker Clement Mzize confirmed he is staying at the club. This step has further strengthened the champions following the signing of Congolese forward Andy Boyeli, who now joins Mzize and Prince Dube in attack.
In the Rayon Day friendly against Rayon Sports, Boyeli immediately showed his value by scoring a goal and providing an assist in Yanga’s 3-1 win. Even during the training camp at Avic Town, Boyeli has continued to impress, competing shoulder to shoulder with Dube, who was the backbone of Yanga’s attack last season.
Last season, Mzize finished as Yanga’s top scorer with 14 goals, just behind Simba’s Jean Ahoua (16 goals). Prince Dube netted 13 despite injuries late in the campaign that prevented him from adding more to his tally.
Together, the two strikers contributed 27 goals last season, and the arrival of Boyeli is expected to add even more firepower.
Both Boyeli and Dube are natural centre-forwards, but Yanga also benefit from Mzize’s versatility, as coach Romain Folz can deploy him as a winger. This gives the team tactical flexibility, especially with the additions of Celestin Ecua and Offen Chikola on the flanks, along with Pacome Zouzoua who has also been impressive in that role.
Looking at the quality of the attackers at Yanga’s disposal, the club heads into the new season with a formidable strike force. With Boyeli adding fresh energy, Dube eager to continue his dominance, and Mzize showing maturity, there is every possibility that new goal-scoring records could be broken in the coming campaign.
