Yanga’s new defender Frank Assink has already impressed at Avic Town, where the squad is continuing preparations for the upcoming season.
Yanga signed Assink from Singida Black Stars to fill the gap left by Yao Kouassi, who has been given more recovery time after undergoing knee surgery.
Assink is a versatile defender who can be deployed anywhere across the backline. While naturally a centre-back, he is also capable of playing as a full-back when needed.
His arrival will also provide much-needed relief for defenders Dickson Job and Ibrahim Bacca, who have carried a heavy workload since last season.
Bacca and Job are key players not only for Yanga but also for the national team. Since the end of last season, they have had little rest, having featured in all five matches for the Taifa Stars at the CHAN tournament. They are also preparing for another national duty— a World Cup qualifier against Niger on September 9.
For now, Assink and captain Bakari Ndondo Mwamnyeto are expected to take on greater responsibility and could feature heavily in the early fixtures of the season, while Bacca and Job are rotated to protect their fitness.
