Kenya’s Bandari FC is reportedly set to be invited by Yanga SC to take part in the Mwananchi Day celebrations, which will climax on September 12 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
The Mwananchi Day event will feature entertainment activities and conclude with a friendly match against the invited team.
Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, confirmed that it has been difficult to secure a team from outside East Africa due to scheduling conflicts.
In most African countries, domestic leagues have already kicked off, except in East Africa, where the CHAN tournament is still ongoing and expected to end on August 30.
Bandari FC, who finished eighth in the Kenyan Premier League last season, could be the team to receive the invitation.
It is worth noting that Mwananchi Day will be held just four days before the Community Shield clash against Simba on September 16. Therefore, the match against Bandari is expected to be more of an entertainment fixture, and coach Romain Folz may choose to rest his key players ahead of the Simba encounter.
