Yanga SC have confirmed they will not take part in this year’s Kagame Cup, which is scheduled to kick off in early September 2025.
According to CECAFA, the Kagame Cup will be staged in Dar es Salaam from September 2 to 15, featuring 12 teams just like last year.
Sources inside Yanga reveal that the decision to skip the tournament was made to give the technical bench ample time to prepare the squad ahead of a demanding season.
“Yanga will not participate in this year’s Kagame Cup because we have a tough schedule ahead,” said a source within the club, adding: “Since the start of pre-season, the squad hasn’t been at full strength, as some players are with the national team, Taifa Stars, at the CHAN tournament. On top of that, we have our annual Mwananchi Week festival, so it is not possible for us to play in a tournament that would clash with such a major event.”
Yesterday, Yanga officially entered camp at Avic Town, where they are expected to undergo a three-week training program before Mwananchi Week climaxes on September 12.
