It is only a matter of time before Yanga SC officially announces the appointment of their new Head Coach, Romain Folz, a French national, who is set to replace Miloud Hamdi after the latter left to take charge of Ismaily SC in Egypt.
Coach Folz, 35, is a familiar name in African football, having worked with various clubs and national teams across the continent, including a stint as an assistant coach at South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns. He has also served as Head Coach and Technical Director in several African countries.
What makes Folz’s arrival even more notable is the influence of former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger. It is reported that during the opening ceremony of the FIFA Club World Cup held on June 5 in the United States, Wenger recommended Folz to Yanga President, Engineer Hersi Said.
The two met during the event, and Wenger, who has worked with Folz through a special FIFA program, advised Hersi on the young coach’s capabilities.
According to reports, Wenger has been a mentor to Folz in his coaching career, and given President Hersi’s vision for the club, he took the recommendation seriously. Communication between Folz and Yanga's management began immediately, and due to his prior African experience, the hiring process was smooth.
Folz will not be arriving alone — he is bringing along Tunisian goalkeeper coach Majdi Mnasria to strengthen Yanga’s technical bench.
This marks another major step for Yanga in their quest for greater success both domestically and on the continental stage.
