If Yanga had plans to part ways with Kenyan utility midfielder Duke Abuya, those plans may have been scrapped yesterday following his outstanding performance in the Premier League match against Simba at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
In the match where Yanga secured a 2-0 victory and successfully defended the league title for the fourth consecutive season, Abuya—unexpectedly started by coach Miloud Hamdi in place of Clatous Chama—‘stole the show’ in midfield, working excellently alongside Mudathir Yahya, Khalid Aucho, and Maxi Nzengeli.
Abuya was everywhere on the pitch—tackling, intercepting balls, and delivering accurate passes. His composure on the ball greatly impressed many spectators and fans.
Hamdi outplayed Simba by focusing his strength in the midfield area, and Abuya was one of the key weapons that ensured the coach achieved his game plan.
Yanga is expected to reinforce its midfield department. Recently, the club brought in skillful Ivorian central midfielder Mohamed Doumbia, a free agent after his contract with SC Majestic of Burkina Faso ended.
Abuya has clearly impressed coach Miloud Hamdi, and without a doubt, the coach will likely want to keep him in the squad for the upcoming season.
