As they prepare for the rescheduled Mainland Tanzania Premier League match against Simba, Yanga SC has taken a firm stance: victory is non-negotiable!
In a high-level meeting held yesterday, Monday, before their return trip to Dar es Salaam, players, the technical bench, and top club officials met to finalize goals and strategies to ensure they win the match.
The match, which has been postponed twice—from March 8 and June 15—will now be played tomorrow, June 25, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium starting at 5:00 PM. It’s a game that could determine the championship title for this season, with Yanga currently leading their arch-rivals Simba by one point.
“We met with the boys and told them the true meaning of this match... this is not just another game. The pride of our leaders and fans is on the line, and the only thing we need is a win,” said one of Yanga’s top executives.
During the meeting, players were given specific instructions to motivate one another and focus their full attention on this crucial match, which could potentially crown the league champions. It’s reported that Yanga’s sponsor, GSM, has placed a reward of no less than TZS 500 million on the table for a victory in this match.
Yanga, with 79 points after 29 matches, must avoid defeat to clinch the title. Simba follows closely with 78 points, making this an unofficial final for the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Yanga’s squad returned to Dar es Salaam yesterday afternoon to finalize preparations. Upon arrival at the port, the team headed straight to their Avic Town camp in Kigamboni.
