Mauritanian international right-back Ibrahima Keita has officially parted ways with former African champions TP Mazembe, just days before his contract officially expires on June 30.
Keita, who served TP Mazembe for two seasons, was one of the key players in their squad, especially anchoring the defense on the right flank. Reports from the club indicate that both parties agreed to a mutual separation, with the player now looking ahead to new challenges.
According to available information, Keita was in Tanzania two weeks ago, where he met with officials of Yanga SC. A reliable source has revealed that talks between the player and “Wananchi” have reached the final stages, and his signing is expected to be completed in the near future.
Yanga are actively searching for a replacement for Yao Kouassi, who is expected to be sidelined until December this year following knee surgery.
Although the club intends to offer Kouassi a contract extension, they will not register him in the upcoming transfer window to allow for a full recovery. He is expected to return to the squad in January 2026 if fully fit.
Keita’s potential signing is part of Yanga’s strategic plans to bolster their defense and secure a long-term replacement. His capabilities, international experience, and professionalism shown at TP Mazembe and the Mauritania national team make him an ideal choice for the club, which is preparing for both domestic and continental competitions.
If the deal is finalized, Keita will be one of Yanga’s major signings for the upcoming season.
