Yanga SC’s Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, has stated that the club’s top priority right now is to secure their fourth consecutive NBC Premier League title.
Kamwe emphasized that the club has never set out to chase individual awards for players, but rather focuses on collective goals, with individual accolades coming as a natural consequence of team success.
Currently sitting at the top of the league table, Yanga needs to win their remaining two matches to defend the title. Meanwhile, their forwards Prince Dube and Clement Mzize are trailing by three goals in the Golden Boot race.
“As a club, we don’t prioritize individual achievements. Our focus is on the team and what we are fighting for is the championship. Individual awards will come on their own. The team doesn't go on the pitch to create goals specifically for Dube, Pacome, or Mzize.”
“The team goes out to earn three points, regardless of whether it’s a 1-0 win or who scores. Yanga fans will celebrate because the value of that goal is three crucial points.”
“Once the season ends, by 2030 we won’t remember who won the Golden Boot — we’ll remember who was the champion. That’s where we’re channeling our energy. If the individual awards come, we’ll gladly celebrate, but our main focus is the team trophy,” said Kamwe.
