In his Government Budget Speech for the 2025/26 financial year, delivered today in Parliament in Dodoma, the Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, used the platform to extend heartfelt congratulations to Yanga Sports Club sponsor, Ghalib Said Mohammed, popularly known as GSM, for his significant contribution to the success of the historic club.
Dr. Nchemba stated that Yanga SC’s recent achievements cannot be separated from the presence of GSM, who has invested greatly—both financially and otherwise—to restore the club to its former glory.
"I take this opportunity to congratulate my brother Ghalib Said Mohammed 'GSM'; he has played a major role in Yanga's success," said Dr. Nchemba before Parliament.
The Minister went further to suggest that Yanga should prepare a special plan to honor GSM, including building a statue of him at the new stadium the club plans to construct in Jangwani, where its headquarters are located.
"I advise Yanga members, as they draw up the design for the new stadium, not to forget to include a large statue of GSM," he added.
In emphasizing the role of sports in fostering national unity and development, Dr. Nchemba also urged leaders of other clubs to learn from the successes of Yanga and Simba SC in how they have managed and competed internationally.
"The success Simba prides itself on is not new to Yanga. They reached the finals the year before last and were only eliminated on away goals—they were not defeated," he said emphatically, highlighting how football can bring honor to the nation.
Since GSM began investing in Yanga, the club has won more than 10 titles, including Premier League titles (3), FA Cups (3), Community Shields (3), and the Union League title, which they won this season.
Additionally, GSM spearheaded the transformation of the club’s management structure, fully funding the entire reform process.
