Yanga Sports Club has clarified the issues discussed between the club and the League Board during a meeting held earlier on Monday June 09th 2025.
Speaking to the media, Yanga's Communications and Media Manager, Ali Kamwe, stated that the League Board's CEO, Almas Kasongo, misrepresented some of the matters discussed in that meeting.
Kamwe confirmed that Yanga presented four demands that must be addressed before they can agree to play match number 184 against Simba.
Out of the four demands, three must be addressed immediately, while one requires more time to be resolved.
“It’s true we received a letter of summons on June 7 and today we participated in the meeting as requested by the League Board. This was a special meeting, not a preparatory one for the match, but rather to discuss the confusion surrounding Premier League match number 184.”
“In our meeting, we also asked about the report on what happened on March 8. The CEO of the League Board, Almas Kasongo, admitted they have the report, and that a high-ranking government official called to prevent the stadium gates from being opened. However, they can't name that person publicly. I’m surprised he didn’t mention this during today’s discussions. We advised him—if he chooses to speak, he should disclose everything and not withhold any information.”
“We made four demands. Three of them concern match number 184. We believe that if these three are addressed first, we will be ready to play the match on a rescheduled date. The fourth demand is long-term, to be implemented starting next season. The League Board CEO, Almas Kasongo, should not mislead the public by only mentioning one demand and ignoring the urgent issues, including his own resignation.”
“Our first and second demands concern the breach of regulations that occurred on March 8. We want the League Management and Oversight Committee and the League Board CEO, Almas Kasongo, to take responsibility by resigning for failing to uphold the rules and tarnishing our football. Our league is one of the best in Africa and deserves competent and professional leadership.”
“Our third demand is the resignation of TFF Secretary General, Wilfred Kidao, for failing to take action against the repeated poor decisions by referees. The Referees Committee falls under TFF and the Secretary General. It's astonishing how one referee keeps making repeated errors and is still assigned matches without any punishment.”
“I want to inform journalists that if our three demands are not urgently addressed, Young Africans SC will not be ready to play match number 184, the remaining two league matches, and we will not participate in the Premier League next season. This is our firm position, and we will not waver,” Kamwe stated.
