After securing an early ticket to participate in the CAF Champions League next season, Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, has stated that the club’s ambition is to perform even better in the competition.
Currently leading the NBC Premier League with 73 points, Yanga has already guaranteed its spot in the prestigious continental tournament, despite being eliminated at the group stage this season.
Kamwe said there are lessons the club has learned from its participation in CAF competitions over the past three seasons, and now the focus is on making greater strides in the tournament.
“We secured qualification for next season’s Champions League with five matches remaining. This means we’ve qualified earlier this season than in previous ones.”
“However, next season we will go into the competition with the unpleasant memory of this season. Given how our club has competed over the past three seasons, you could say reaching the group stage is still an achievement—but we’ve already done so many big things as a club that now we are being pushed to go beyond the usual targets.”
“We’ve played in the Confederation Cup final and reached the Champions League quarter-finals, which means we now need to set goals to do even better. I believe that heading into next season, every fan and member of this club wants to see their team return to those stages—quarter-finals, semi-finals, and hopefully even the final.”
“A club like Pyramids may have taught us this season that you don’t need years of experience in that competition to win the title,” Kamwe added.
