Egyptian club Zamalek has intensified its efforts to sign Yanga SC's key striker, Clement Mzize, by increasing their initial bid, which had been rejected by the Tanzanian club's management.
According to sources close to Yanga’s leadership, Zamalek has now submitted a new offer of approximately USD 750,000, equivalent to over 2 billion Tanzanian shillings, in a renewed push to secure Mzize before the transfer window closes.
Initially, Yanga had received a lower bid from Zamalek, but it was turned down as it did not meet the expectations of the club, which is currently fighting to defend its Premier League title and the CRDB Cup. However, the improved offer has opened the door to direct negotiations between the two sides.
Besides Zamalek, Yanga has reportedly also received offers from Algeria’s JS Kabylie and Libya’s Al-Ittihad, but none of those offers have been as convincing to Yanga’s executives as Zamalek’s.
According to the reports, all indications suggest that Mzize is likely to join Zamalek, with his transfer expected to earn Yanga a significant financial boost that will aid in strengthening their squad.
It is evident that Yanga has started exploring the transfer market to profit from the sale of some of its star players—a move that was already seen when they sold their key midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki to Morocco’s Wydad Athletic for nearly TZS 2 billion.
The team’s number one goalkeeper, Djigui Diarra, is also rumored to be on the radar of several clubs, with reports indicating that Yanga has received attractive offers from abroad.
Yanga appears to be in a strategic phase of increasing revenue through the sale of select players while preparing to strengthen the team during the upcoming domestic and international competition season.
