Yanga show interest in coach Mokwena

Yanga SC appears to be entering a new phase in its strategic efforts to compete at the highest level of African football after being directly linked with South African tactician, Rulani Mokwena.

Reliable sources within the club’s leadership have confirmed that Yanga president, Engineer Hersi Said, has held preliminary talks with Mokwena, who recently parted ways with Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.

MILOUD HAMDI ON HIS WAY OUT

Yanga’s current head coach, Miloud Hamdi, is expected to see his contract expire at the end of this season, with strong indications that he might not renew.

Hamdi was hired as a short-term solution following the abrupt departure of Sead Ramovic. While he has had a decent spell, it’s clear his future will depend on the outcome of discussions once his contract ends.

Sources suggest there is a high possibility that Hamdi could return to Singida Black Stars, where he had started a promising project before being "snatched" by Yanga.

MOKWENA: A MODERN COACH WITH GRAND VISION

On the other hand, Rulani Mokwena’s name has become a hot topic among football stakeholders due to his success with Mamelodi Sundowns, where he built a reputation for implementing a modern football philosophy—marked by discipline, tactical sharpness, and youth development.

Although his tenure at Wydad was brief, he helped the club finish third in the Moroccan league and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup (CAF CC)—a milestone considered significant given the state of the club before his arrival.

YANGA’S GOAL: AFRICAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GLORY

For years, Yanga has dreamed of lifting the CAF Champions League trophy—a goal that has repeatedly been hampered by instability in the technical bench.

Bringing in a coach like Mokwena, who boasts an impressive track record, especially from his time at Mamelodi Sundowns, could be a bold step toward strengthening the squad for that ambitious pursuit.

Top coaches often consider more than just financial incentives—they also evaluate club infrastructure and operational systems. Yanga stands out as one of the few African clubs with a modern setup. It now has the capability to sign top-tier players, and its overall environment can attract coaches of Mokwena’s caliber.

Mokwena could represent a new symbol of transformation—especially in helping Yanga consistently advance beyond the group stage of the Champions League and achieve greater success than in previous years.

If these talks materialize, Yanga SC will have taken a significant step forward in its journey toward becoming a dominant force in African football.

Rulani Mokwena is no ordinary coach—he is an innovative, ambitious young tactician who understands the modern football landscape inside out.

Should this deal go through, it would be a major leap not just for Yanga, but for Tanzanian football as a whole.
